Abstract

Al-Ghazali, an eminent figure in Islamic philosophy, expressed profound understandings regarding the fundamental principles that govern the establishment and operation of societies. This abstract delves into an analysis of Al-Ghazali›s seminal thoughts concerning the foundational principles of societal formation, as expounded in his philosophical and
theological works. Central to Al-Ghazali›s perspective on society formation is his emphasis on the primacy of ethical and moral considerations. Through his theological treatises and philosophical discourses, Al-Ghazali underscored the indispensability of virtuous conduct and righteousness in fostering harmonious social relations. He posited that a just and
equitable society could only emerge from individuals› adherence to ethical principles and their cultivation of virtues such as compassion, justice, and humility.
Al-Ghazali elucidated the role of religion and divine guidance in shaping societal norms and structures. Drawing upon Islamic teachings, he advocated for the integration of religious values into the fabric of social institutions, contending that adherence to religious precepts fosters societal cohesion and collective welfare. In addition to moral considerations, Al-Ghazali addressed the importance of governance and law in societal formation. He articulated principles of governance rooted in justice, consultation, and accountability, emphasizing the need for rulers to govern with wisdom and benevolence. This analysis of l-Ghazali›s thoughts on societal formation sheds light on timeless principles that remain relevant in contemporary discussions on governance, ethics, and social cohesion.
