Authorship Policy
Authorship and Contribution Policy
Al-Amīn (Faiṣalābād)
Al-Amīn (Faiṣalābād) recognizes that accurate authorship attribution, responsible contributor acknowledgment, and transparent reporting of scholarly contributions are fundamental components of ethical academic publishing and research integrity.
The journal promotes fair, transparent, and accountable authorship practices in research concerning Islamic Studies, Qur’anic Studies, Hadith Studies, Seerah, Islamic jurisprudence, theology, Islamic history, Islamic philosophy, Arabic and Islamic intellectual traditions, comparative religion, and related humanities and social science disciplines.
This policy is informed by internationally recognized principles, including the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices, and the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) framework, where applicable to the nature of the submitted research.
Al-Amīn encourages transparent reporting of individual scholarly contributions. Where appropriate, authors should provide a contribution statement describing the specific roles performed by each contributor.
The following CRediT contributor roles may be used where relevant to the submitted research:
- Conceptualization: Development of the research question, scholarly argument, aims, or objectives.
- Methodology: Development or selection of the research methodology or analytical approach.
- Investigation: Conducting textual, historical, field, archival, interview, or other scholarly investigation.
- Formal Analysis: Analytical, comparative, textual, historical, linguistic, statistical, or other systematic analysis.
- Resources: Provision of manuscripts, archival materials, scholarly resources, databases, research materials, or other resources.
- Data Curation: Organization, documentation, preservation, and management of research materials or datasets where applicable.
- Writing – Original Draft : Preparation of the initial manuscript.
- Writing – Review & Editing: Critical review, revision, intellectual development, and editing of the manuscript.
- Visualization: Preparation of tables, figures, diagrams, conceptual representations, or other scholarly visual materials where applicable.
- Supervision: Scholarly supervision and oversight of the research.
- Project Administration: Coordination and management of research activities.
- Funding Acquisition: Securing financial support for the research project.
The Corresponding Author serves as the principal communication link between the journal and the authors throughout submission, peer review, revision, publication, and post-publication communication.
The Corresponding Author is responsible for:
- Ensuring that all listed authors meet the journal's authorship criteria.
- Confirming that all authors have approved the submitted manuscript.
- Obtaining approval of the final version from all authors before publication.
- Managing communication between the editorial office and co-authors.
- Providing accurate author names, affiliations, contact information, and contribution statements.
- Ensuring that funding information and conflicts of interest are appropriately disclosed.
- Ensuring that ethical approvals and participant-consent requirements are addressed where applicable.
- Coordinating responses to editorial queries and peer-review comments.
- Communicating manuscript revisions and decisions to all co-authors.
- Ensuring that the submitted work is original and that all sources are appropriately acknowledged.
- Assisting the journal in resolving any post-publication authorship or contribution concerns.
Requests to add, remove, replace, or reorder authors after manuscript submission must be formally communicated to the editorial office and are subject to editorial approval.
Requests for changes in authorship should normally include:
- A written explanation from the Corresponding Author describing the reason for the requested change.
- Written agreement from all existing authors.
- Written agreement from any author being added or removed, where applicable.
- An updated contribution statement.
- Supporting documentation where the editorial office considers it necessary.
Authorship changes after acceptance or publication may require additional editorial assessment and, where appropriate, institutional clarification or a formal correction to the published record.
If authorship is disputed, the journal may suspend editorial processing until the matter is appropriately resolved. The journal may refer unresolved disputes to the relevant institution or responsible authority rather than attempting to determine institutional authorship disputes itself.
Al-Amīn strictly prohibits authorship practices that compromise scholarly integrity or misrepresent individual contributions.
Ghost Authorship
Ghost authorship occurs when an individual who has made a substantial scholarly contribution is deliberately excluded from the author list.
Gift or Honorary Authorship
Gift or honorary authorship occurs when an individual is listed as an author despite making no substantial intellectual contribution to the research.
Academic title, seniority, administrative position, institutional authority, supervision alone, or financial support does not automatically establish authorship.
Purchased or Commercial Authorship
The buying, selling, exchanging, or commercially arranging of authorship positions is prohibited.
Paper-Mill or Fraudulent Authorship
The use of fraudulent manuscript-production services, fabricated authorship, purchased manuscripts, manipulated references, or other deceptive publication services is prohibited.
False Contribution Statements
Authors must not falsely describe or misrepresent the contributions of themselves or other contributors.
Artificial intelligence tools, including generative AI systems, cannot be listed as authors or co-authors.
AI systems cannot assume responsibility for scholarly work, approve a final manuscript, disclose conflicts of interest, respond to ethical concerns, or accept academic and legal accountability.
Authors who use AI-assisted tools for activities such as:
- Language improvement;
- Translation assistance;
- Text organization;
- Data or textual analysis;
- Coding or computational assistance;
- Visualization; or
- Other substantive scholarly support
must use such tools responsibly and verify all resulting material.
Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, authenticity, interpretation, citations, and conclusions of their manuscripts.
Where the use of AI has materially contributed to the preparation or development of a manuscript, appropriate disclosure should be provided in accordance with the journal's AI and publication-ethics requirements.
Because research published by Al-Amīn may involve collaboration among scholars from different disciplines and institutions, all contributors must be treated fairly and transparently.
Collaborative research may involve scholars working in areas such as:
- Qur’anic Studies;
- Hadith Studies;
- Seerah and Islamic history;
- Islamic jurisprudence;
- Usul al-Fiqh;
- Islamic theology;
- Islamic philosophy;
- Arabic language and literature;
- Islamic civilization;
- Comparative religion;
- Islamic economics and finance;
- Islamic education;
- Muslim societies and contemporary Islamic thought;
- Manuscript and archival studies; and
- Related humanities and social science disciplines.
All contributors should receive appropriate recognition for their actual scholarly contributions.
Individuals who provide valuable assistance but do not meet the journal's authorship criteria should be acknowledged appropriately where relevant.
Acknowledgements may include contributions such as:
- General administrative assistance;
- Language or technical assistance;
- Research assistance that does not meet authorship requirements;
- Access to archives, manuscripts, libraries, or research materials;
- Institutional or logistical support; and
- Other non-author contributions.
Authors must disclose any relationship or circumstance that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the research, interpretation, authorship, or publication process.
Where applicable, authors must disclose:
- Research funding;
- Institutional support;
- Sponsored research;
- Financial interests;
- Relevant professional relationships;
- Personal or academic conflicts of interest; and
- Any other circumstance that could affect the perceived independence of the research.
Al-Amīn promotes responsible authorship, contributor transparency, editorial integrity, and accountability throughout the scholarly publishing process.
The journal may request additional information concerning:
- Individual author contributions;
- Authorship disputes;
- Research responsibilities;
- Funding arrangements;
- Ethical approvals;
- Source documentation; or
- Other matters relevant to publication integrity.
The journal reserves the right to investigate authorship concerns, contribution disputes, ethical complaints, or publication-integrity issues in accordance with recognized ethical publishing standards and applicable institutional or national requirements.
Where necessary, the journal may seek clarification from authors, institutions, research organizations, or other appropriate authorities.
This policy is informed by recognized scholarly publishing principles and relevant guidance, including:
- COPE Core Practices: https://publicationethics.org/core-practices
- CRediT Contributor Roles Taxonomy: https://credit.niso.org/
- DOAJ Principles of Transparency and Best Practice: https://doaj.org/bestpractice
The journal may revise this policy when recognized international standards, national requirements, or scholarly publishing practices are updated.
Important Notice
Any confirmed case of authorship manipulation, false contribution declaration, purchased or honorary authorship, deliberate exclusion of a legitimate contributor, fraudulent authorship, or other deliberate misrepresentation of scholarly contribution may result in editorial investigation and appropriate action.
Depending on the circumstances and seriousness of the matter, such action may include manuscript rejection, correction of the published record, retraction, temporary submission restrictions, institutional notification, or other publication-integrity measures consistent with the journal's policies and recognized ethical publishing standards.
